At the 14th World Stroke Congress in Singapore in October 2022, the World Stroke Organisation will be showcasing the work of stroke support organisations from around the world.
They would like to share testimonials from stroke survivors, family and carers throughout the Congress. This can be a short written piece, a quote, a poem, a photo, or artwork.

Slovak weekly magazine in cooperation with RTVS -Slovak national TV and Radio and with the Slovak National Theater presented the nominees of the twelfth year of the SLOVENKA OF THE YEAR.
JUDr. Alžbeta Husarovič, MHA, MPH is one of this year’s laureates for the Slovakian Women of the Year. She is the President of the civic association Porážka.sk, which is dedicated to raising stroke awareness and helping patients and their families with information about physiotherapy, speech therapy, psychology, social assistance. The aim of this organisation is to improve patients’ quality of life and lead them to self-sufficiency.
“I was very pleased and amazed when I became the Nominee for the Slovak Woman of the year 2020. I didn’t think that somebody is even noticing me for what I am doing. And I am doing this activity with love” said Alžbeta, adding: “This event Slovak Woman is a competition but I don’t consider it so. For me, it is a opportunity for woman to show others what the can do!”

We have no idea yet of which successful Slovak woman will be awarded in the following categories: Business and Management, Arts and Culture, Media and Communication, Science and Research, Education, Support for Young Talents, Healthcare, Sport and Charity, since all laureates are inspirational ladies, who will be introduced to you over the next few weeks.
In addition, this year the nomination committee will award the title of Absolute Slovak Woman of the Year and the Special Lifetime Achievement Award for Slovakia. We will come to learn the winning names during the gala evening in the historical building of the Slovak National Theater and live broadcast of RTVS – Slovak National TV and Radio on May 31, 2020.

Historically, the first Slovak Woman of the year in 2009 became the head physician of the 2nd Pediatric Clinic of the Faculty of Medicine and the Pediatric University Hospital with the Policlinic in Bratislava MUDr. Anna Hlavatá, and so far the last – Slovak of the year 2019 – is Andrea Gontkovičová.

For this year’s World Stroke Day in Slovakia, a stroke support organisation Porážka.sk and a fashion stylist Andrej Kusalík organised a Charity Fashion Show. The event took place on 24th October 2019 in the Privee Lounge in Motešických Palace, in Bratislava, Slovakia.
A successful Slovakian fashion designer Michael Kováčik created a T-shirt “Unbeaten” in three different outlooks for the Porážka.sk. These T-shirts were presented on a runway by Slovakian models and previous participants of the Miss Slovakia – Barbora Franeková, Magdaléna Šebestová, Eva Rezešová and Simona Brnová Slobodníková.
The main idea of the event was to auction money for the support of the Porážka.sk, with special focus on coveing treatment costs Peter Tatarko, an engineer who survived stroke in May 2018.
The main voice of the evening belonged one of TV moderators JOJ Lucia Wirthová. Apart from these designed T-shirts, the auction included a work of art by the academic painter Daniel Bidelnica and a painting by his wife Maria Bidelnicová as well. In addition to these two artworks also auctioned designer’s piece by Michael Kováčik, based on the auctioneer’s choice.
The evening was very successful and managed to auction around 6.500 EUR. The event was supported by leading bidders, celebrity photographer Petra Ficová, owner of Envy Lounge, Natalia Selveková and two anonymous auctioneers.
During the evening, the T-shirts were sold, bringing an additional sum of 800 EUR to Porážka.sk.
These beautifully designed T-shirts will continue to be sold on OZ Porážka.sk website www.porazka.sk, via Porazka.sk social media and on Zľavomat website, www.zlavomat.sk.
The funding that was generated through all of these activities will mainly be used for the treatment of Peter Tatarko, who overcame the defeat in May 2018. The treatment is expected to last for three intensive weeks. The cost of treatment is 3.500 EUR and Porážka.sk is very glad that it can help people through activities like this.

SAFE is delighted to share the news of Stroke Society of Slovenia being awarded with the World Stroke Award in the High-Income Country category.
World Stroke Awards are given to organisations and individuals who have demonstrated high levels of commitment and creativity in support of the objectives and messages of the World Stroke Campaign.
The Campaign Working Group and Committee selected the Stroke Society of Slovenia, for an award based on their impressive outreach programme and development of local partnerships that will do much to raise awareness of stroke and to build an understanding of the challenges of stroke survivors.
The Committee were impressed by the reach of Slovenian campaign, and strategic engagement of faith based organizations and media that will help to support future advocacy and public awareness campaigns in Slovenia.

Brussels, 21st November 2018 – As the second biggest killer in the world, the response to Stroke needs an army of advocates to ensure the message that it is preventable, treatable and beatable is implemented. SSOFT is an excellent tool to educate people on the principles of stroke advocacy. It will strengthen their ability to advocate for better stroke prevention, treatment and after care. This module is vital as a contribution to effective public campaigning. We believe that SSOFT will provide inspiration for future stroke advocates to make a real-life change, says Jon Barrick, SAFE President.
The sixth and final eLearning module of the Stroke Support Organisation Faculty Tool (SSOFT) is published today at the following address www.ssoft.info, thus marking the completion of this innovative eLearning tool on stroke support organisation and the principles of stroke advocacy.
The SSOFT’s sixth module focuses on the skills and principles around developing effective public advocacy campaigns.
SSOFT’s development and execution was successfully led by Victoria Brewer, SAFE Project Director, who stressed from the beginning of the project that the members of the SAFE had to be central to the whole process. SAFE members have been actively involved in the development of the content by either testing the modules, providing cases studies or sharing their experience in interviews. These examples have brought much of the content to life by providing real world cases studies of how the knowledge contained in the modules can be applied.

The release of the final module marks a significant stage in SSOFT’s development with this stage of development being completed. SAFE is currently exploring future expansion options for SSOFT

About SSOFT’s 6th module
SSOFT’s sixth module focuses on the skills and principles around developing effective public advocacy campaigns. The module is broken down in to five bitesize sections, which cover:
6.1 Public advocacy – focuses on the role of public engagement in advocacy & how to dispel stroke myths to drive change.
6.2 Stroke Community & Mass Campaigning – covers how to build a stroke community & campaign to a large audience
6.3 Publicity – demonstrates how to manage publicity by engaging with print & broadcast media
6.4 Traditional Media – helps learners to understand the role of traditional media &and learn how to work with journalists & editors
6.5 Social Media – examine the role of social media in bringing momentum for change.
About SSOFT
SSOFT is an innovative online eLearning advocacy tool being developed by Stroke Alliance for Europe (SAFE), in partnership with the European Stroke Organisation (ESO).
