Why we write position statements and attend EU Meetings

Decisions made in Brussels shape health policy in EU member states – from how countries prevent disease and support patients and carers, to how they respond to major health challenges like stroke. These choices affect millions of lives, so it is important that the voices of people with lived experience and professionals are included. That is why we make our voice heard.

  • Speaking up clearly
Our policy statements explain what matters to us and what solutions we see. They make sure our views do not get lost in the noise.
  • Sharing knowledge
We bring real experience, evidence and ideas to the table so that EU laws and strategies work in practice – not just on paper.
  • Talking directly with decision-makers
By attending meetings with the European Parliament, the European Commission and other EU bodies, we can ask questions, share concerns and build understanding on both sides.
  • Helping shape the future
We do not just wait for decisions to be made – we get involved early so that new policies include stroke and forward-looking.

In short, writing policy statements and joining EU meetings is how we make sure the people making the rules hear directly from those who live with the results.
